Coaching

If we think about it, most highly effective, successful people have at least one coach.   Michael Jordan, the Dallas Cowboys, and Oprah.  Not because  they need "help", or are weak or stupid but it helps them to be the best at what they do.  The coach empowers them not just to survive, but to succeed, to excel.   The coach helps them see what they "do not know, that they do not know."  Yet, often we do not think about having someone to empower us in all areas of our lives, except possible therapy.  Therapy is a very valuable tool, but traditionally focuses on our past and moving beyond it.  Life coaching focuses on the future.

In our society, we change houses, cities, and careers because they no longer serve us.  We comprehend and can even appreciate that these types of changes are inevitable.  Yet we have been trained to believe that divorce means that we have failed. Or that someone is to blame for the decline of the relationship.  Ms. Matthews believes that at times we must change partners because they no longer serve us.  This does not make them a mistake as they did serve a purpose at that time.  But now that relationship does not serve us, or the other partner, and therefore the change in partnership happens.

Ms. Matthews believes that many people have not profoundly thought about what they want for themselves.  They have been busy creating themselves into what was expected of them by their parents, their spouse, or their boss.  Life coaching allows the client to get very clear about who they are, what  they want and how to get there.  Ms. Matthews believes that each person has their own unique, talented, intelligent inner guidance. She does not need to tell the person who to be or how to get  there.  Instead, her coaching allows the person the time and space to think for themselves, and thus create for themselves the life that they want.   Ms. Matthews facilitates the person to carve their true, inner person hidden beneath all the layers of childhood conditioning and expectations, career demands, parenting responsibilities and relationship dynamics.  Ms. Matthews believes that divorce provides an excellent time in one's life to think about the future.  To really think about who do we want to be, what do we want to do, or say or think ?   Divorce provides the perfect transition time in our lives to launch ourselves into who we really want to be; to create a life of our dreams.

Ms. Matthews has always been fascinated by what makes people succeed.  She majored in psychology in college and continued to pursue further growth and development training since 1994.  She is currently pursuing a two year training in life coaching to strengthen and hone her skills in this area.  She provides one-on-one coaching to clients both in the separation process and thereafter.   Ms. Matthews is skilled in helping people pursue what they really want in the separation process rather than get caught up in the negative emotion and often reactive steps.  By helping her clients continue to keep their true goals in front of them, Ms. Matthews helps them to focus on what they want and achieve it with less time, energy, costs and distress than they would otherwise have in the separation process.

Ms. Matthews keeps on her desk the following written by Marianne Williamson and quoted by Nelson Mandela in his Inaugural Address:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?'  Actually, who are you not to be?   Your playing small does not serve the world.  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is in us.  It's not just within some of us, it's in everyone.  When we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give to other permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."  From that quote, she has always enjoyed the saying, Shine your light!

TESTIMONIAL:

After a few months of life coaching with Gabriela the glass bubble I was living in has been popped!   I have recognized the arbitrary limits that I placed on my career and am excited to go after the life that I truly desire.  Instead of accepting life as a passive bystander, the tools that I am gaining through life coaching have empowered me to visualize what I want and look within myself to figure out how to get there.  The life coaching experience was new to me but I now use the techniques throughout my daily life to stop being anxious about the things I can't control and start working toward my personal goals.
